|James Murphy (Comsewogue/Long Island)has become one of the nation’s top threats as a freshman this season. Murphy helped guide the Vikings to a 4-2 record and a #3 national ranking in January. He recorded 15 goals and seven assists this past month, scoring in all six games. In three of the games, Murphy recorded a hat-trick in which the Vikings were victorious.
Leading the nation in goals with 28 on the season, he is tied with teammate William Huber (Arlington/Hopewell) for most points in the nation with 46. He is currently fourth all-time for goals in a season and needs only eight more to tie the record of 36. Murphy hopes to lead his team on to a National Championship run this season.
Sophomore Megan Rzeszuto (Colonie/Schenectady) is off to a hot start for the women’s bowling team. Rzeszuto led the team with a 210-205-218 for a 633 triple at the Columbia-Greene Invitational, helping to pace the women’s team to a first-place finish. At the home Hudson Valley Invitational, she led again with a 580 triple (200-203-177), assisting in a second-place finish. Rzeszuto closed the month of January strong with a second overall finish for All-Events at the Orange & Blue Classic in Wappinger Falls. Her six-game total was 1061.
The only returning sophomore on the roster, Rzeszuto looks to lead a young team to its seventh conference championship in 10 years. The Vikings take on three more conference matches in February before heading to Regionals in Utica on Sunday, Feb. 17.
