Lacrosse Drops Home Opener

The No. 10 Hudson Valley Community College lacrosse team (2-2) lost to Tompkins Cortland Community College (3-2) 14-10 on Wednesday evening.

Tompkins Cortland started strong in the first quarter, leading Hudson Valley 5-2. Over the next two quarters the Vikings were outscored 8-5 by the Panthers, as they headed into the fourth quarter trailing 13-7.

Hudson Valley rallied in the final minutes of the game scoring three unanswered, two by Aaron Thorpe (Ballston Spa/Malta) and one from Neil Swingruber (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa). The Vikings momentum ended when the Panthers secured their victory with a goal in the final seconds of the game.

Thorpe led the team with five goals, and Swingruber and Mark Calicchia (Shaker/ Loudonville) each added two. Josh Moseman (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) recorded his third goal of the season, and Jahn Skinner-Ligon (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) stopped 18 shots on goal in the loss.

The men host No. 5 Genesee on Friday at 4 p.m.
