No. 10 Lacrosse Edges Mercyhurst NE

The No. 10 Hudson Valley Community College lacrosse team (3-3) defeated Mercyhurst North East (0-7) 19-10 on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints started the game with two goals in the opening minutes of the first quarter, but thehe Vikings rallied minutes later, scoring three unanswered in less than 30 seconds. Neil Swingruber (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) scored the final goal of the quarter with an assist from Aaron Thorpe (Ballston Spa/Malta) to give Hudson Valley a 4-3 lead.

At the beginning of the second, Mercyhurst regained the lead with a pair of goals. After a timeout, Hudson Valley responded with a five-goal rally to end the first half.

The Vikings controlled the tempo on both sides of the field in the second half, scoring 10 goals and only allowing the Saints five on eight shots.

For the second time this season, Swingruber led the Vikings with six goals. Thorpe and Ryan Gallup (Guilderland/Altamont) each had three goals, and Chris Breault (Agawam/Agawam, MA), Mark Calicchia (Shaker/Loudonville), and Josh Moseman (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) contributed two. Austin Hinderliter (Johnstown/Ephratah) was the seventh Viking to score in the victory.
