Swingruber Leads Vikings to Overtime Victory

The Hudson Valley Community College lacrosse team (4-3) defeated Herkimer College (1-3) 12-11 in overtime on Wednesday evening.
The Vikings found themselves down early after conceding a goal in the first 90 seconds of play. Hudson Valley answered back with a quick goal and added another in the final minute of quarter. In the second quarter, both teams scored four goals, resulting in two lead changes and three ties, giving the Vikings a 6-5 edge at the half.
Herkimer regained the lead at the end of the third quarter, 9-8, and was able to add two more goals in the fourth to take an 11-8 lead. With the Vikings trailing by three late in the game, freshman Neil Swingruber (Ballston Spa/ Ballston Spa) was able to capitalize on three straight goals, including the game-tying goal to force overtime.
In overtime, Swingruber drove past his defender and made a diving shot to win the game. He was responsible for scoring the Vikings last four goals and led the team with six. Austin Hinderliter (Johnstown/Ephratah) scored three, Chris Breault (Agawam/Agawam, MA) had two, and Ryan Gallup (Guilderland/Altamont) contributed a goal in the victory.
The men travel to the County College of Morris on Saturday at 2 p.m.
