Softball Takes Two from Broome

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (2-4) defeated SUNY Broome (0-6) 12-6 in game one and 12-3 in game two on Tuesday evening.

During the first game the Vikings got off to an early start, taking a commanding 6-1 lead over the Hornets.

Broome rallied in the fourth scoring three, and pulling within two of Hudson Valley. The Vikings answered with five hits and four runs over the next two innings, securing their first victory of the season.

Kortnee Phillips (Rensselaer/Rensselaer) led the Vikings going 2-4 at the plate and recording four RBIs. Kaitlin DelSignore (Troy/Brunswick) and Alyssa Ellis (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls) each recorded three RBIs in the victory.

At the end of the third in the second game, the Vikings were tied 3-3. With two outs in the fourth, DelSignore gave Hudson Valley the spark needed to pull ahead with a two-run double into center field. The rally continued into the fifth, as the Vikings added seven to extended their lead over the Hornets.

DelSignore led the Vikings with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs, and Chelsea Stevens (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls) recorded three RBIs in the victory.

The women host Clinton next Tuesday starting at 3 p.m.
