Softball Splits with Columbia-Greene

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (7-9) split with Columbia-Greene Community College (9-7) Thursday afternoon. The Vikings won game one ended 5-4, and lost game two 5-1.

In the first game, Hudson Valley had a huge fourth inning scoring four runs to take a commanding 5-1 lead of Columbia-Greene. The Vikings held on for the victory, despite the Twins scoring one in the fifth and the two more in the sixth.

Cheyanne Mandigo (Corinth/Corinth) led the Vikings going 2-3 at the plate, including a triple, three RBIs and one run. Elizabeth Brooking (Rensselaer/Rensselaer) also recorded two hits and one run in the victory.

Alyssa Ellis (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls) pitched a solid six inning for Hudson Valley earning the win in the first game. She recorded three strikeouts and only two earned-runs before Brooking came in to close in close in the seventh to secure the pick up the save.

The Vikings struggled offensively in the second game, only scoring one run on three hits. Mandigo scored the run for the Vikings with her first home run of the season. Kaitlin DelSignore (Troy/Brunswick) and Brooking also recorded a hit in the loss.

The women host Genesee on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
