The Hudson Valley Community College women’s soccer team (8-8) defeated Jefferson Community College (7-9) 4-3 in two overtimes on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings fell behind 3-0 at the end of the first half, but Elisabeth Morehouse (Coxsackie-Athens/Coxsackie) and Sydney Buhrke (Coxsackie-Athen/Coxsackie) each scored twice within two minutes early in the second to cut the lead to 3-2. Morehouse would score with 1:14 left in the game to tie the game at three, keeping the Vikings post season hopes alive. A loss would have eliminated Hudson Valley from playoff contention, but Susannah Frisch (Cambridge/Cambridge) would score in the second overtime to give the Vikings the win, and the number 7 seed in the Regional tournament.
The women square off against the No. 2 seeded Finger Lakes Lakers on Tuesday for a game at Finger Lakes at 3 p.m.
