For the eighth consecutive year, Shakespeare & Company caps a week-long residency with Hudson Valley students, faculty and staff in a 90-minute performance of The Bard’s most delightful, outrageous and comical portrayal of love, mischief and duty.
The free performance, which embodies the company’s educational mission to immerse students in the world of Shakespeare and classical theater in the most active and engaging ways, is open to all ages.

The college will host an open media event to announce a comprehensive transfer agreement with the University at Albany. Hudson Valley Community College President Drew Matonak and University at Albany Vice Provost Jeanette Altarriba will sign the agreement into effect at the event. College and University administrators, faculty and students will be in attendance. Transfer admission representatives from UAlbany will remain on site at an information table from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Tobias Wolff is the author of the acclaimed novels “The Barracks Thief” and “Old School,” the memoirs “This Boy’s Life” and “In Pharaoh’s Army,” and the short story collections “In the Garden of the North American Martyrs,” “Back in the World,” and “The Night in Question.” His most recent collection of short stories, “Our Story Begins,” won The Story Prize for 2008. Wolff received a National Medal of the Arts from President Obama in September 2015. Other awards include the PEN/Malamud Award and the Rea Award, both for excellence in the short story, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and the PEN/Faulkner Award. He’s edited several anthologies, including “Best American Short Stories,” “The Vintage Book of Contemporary American Short Stories,” and “A Doctor’s Visit: The Short Stories of Anton Chekhov.” His work appears regularly in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper’s, and other magazines and literary journals. A faculty member in the Creative Writing Program at Stanford University since 1997, Wolff currently is the Ward W. and Priscilla B. Woods Emeritus Professor in the Humanities.

This event is co-sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Program and the English, Foreign Languages and English as a Second Language Department.

Honey bees are responsible for pollinating up to one third of the fruits and vegetables we eat every day. Besides this most important role, honey bees live a fascinating social life. Honey bees and wild pollinators also are important to the health of the environment. Currently, honey bees and many other pollinators are under stress from a variety of sources. Loss of habitat, parasites, disease and pesticide exposure contribute to the decline in bee populations. Tom Della Rocco, Albany County executive director with the USDA Farm Service Agency, discusses the life of honey bees and the threats they face.

Who else but Brian Melick, the region’s best known and most enduring percussionist, would use LEGOs® to build a drum set? Following a “very strict credo NOT to alter the original LEGO-designed brick in any way” – no cutting, drilling or gluing – Melick took advantage of the toy’s remarkable flexibility to build a fully-functional musical instrument. DIRT is a theatrical experience for all ages that combines over-size mask and puppet characters, visual storytelling and live music in a fun-filled tale about the secret life of soil. The show’s quirky characters include a posse of cosmic shakers, an astronaut gone astray, the alchemical processes of plants, and soil microbes performing their unsung ecosystem services as a lyrical reminder that even modern cyber-space travelers depend on dirt for survival.
