Hudson Valley to Host Family Day on Saturday

Hudson Valley Community College's annual Family Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 28. College officials expect approximately 750 incoming freshmen and their family members to attend the activities.
The event begins at the McDonough Sports Complex with opening remarks by: Dr. Marco J. Silvestri, president of Hudson Valley; Vivian Tortorici, dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and School of Health Sciences; Dr. Anne Marie Murray, dean of the School of Business and the School of Engineering and Industrial Technology; and Jenn Vogt, president of the Hudson Valley Community College Student Senate.
Department chairs and student advisors also will be on hand during the day to meet with students. Several offices will be open until noon, including the bookstore, financial aid, college health service, athletics and the registrar.
Family Day will conclude with a student/family picnic under the Student Pavilion in front of Hudson Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Hudson Valley's 2004-05 school year begins on Monday, August 30. College officials are expecting record enrollment for the fourth straight semester.
Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has nearly 60,000 alumni.
