Orientation for Accepted Students at Hudson Valley Community College Scheduled for August 18, 2012

What: Hudson Valley Community College students accepted for fall 2012 admission will learn about academic support services, veteran support services, financial aid and extracurricular activities, meet with current students, and tour the campus during New Student Orientation on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. Information sessions will focus on what is expected of a Hudson Valley student and what parents and other family members can do to help their student succeed.

Students also may register online and view a complete schedule of orientation events at http://www.hvcc.edu/orientation. Accepted students, family members and guests are welcome. Registration is recommended, though walk-ins are welcome.
Currently, the college is expecting record attendance numbers with more than 1000 students and nearly 1300 guests registered. Students who return the Orientation Questionnaire will receive a Hudson Valley Community College 4 GB flash drive.
Who: Welcome remarks will be given by members of the college’s administrative staff:

Margaret Geehan, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences andSchool of Health Sciences
- Alex Duerr, Student Senate President
Where: Check-in takes place in the McDonough Sports Complex, as do the parent/guest sessions. Student sessions and other information sessions take place in various locations throughout the campus, as noted on programs to be distributed that morning. Campus tours originate in the Siek Campus Center. The campus is located at 80 Vandenburgh Avenue, Troy, NY.
When: Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012. Check-in begins at 8 a.m.; sessions begin at 9 a.m. Campus tours are offered continuously from 10:15 a.m. to Noon.
Details: Students will attend the hour-long session, “What’s Expected of Me as a Hudson Valley Community College Student.” Parents and other guests will participate in the session, “What Can I Do to Help My Student Succeed.”
At the end of these sessions, there will be drawings for an Android Tablet, a $1,000 tuition voucher, gift certificates to the Viking’s Cove Bookstore, and a Hudson Valley Community College gift basket.
Members of the college professional staff as well as representatives of various student clubs and organizations will be on hand throughout the morning to answer questions. All service offices will close at noon, except for the Bookstore, which will remain open until 2 p.m. All buildings will remain open until 2 p.m. The Center for Access and Assistive Technology, Room 130, Siek Campus Center, and the newly renovated Marvin Library Learning Commons also will be open from 10 - 11:30 a.m.
