Math and Engineering Science

The Math and Engineering Science Department serves the mathematical needs for all degree and certificate programs at the college, offering courses from arithmetic through differential equations.


The department administers the following degree programs:

Engineering Science A.S.
The Engineering Science degree parallels the first two years of four-year college programs in various engineering fields. Graduates in good academic standing transfer to some of the top engineering schools in the country.

Liberal Arts and Science - Mathematics and Science A.S.
This degree parallels the first two years of four-year college programs in the fields of math and science. The curriculum provides a foundation of core courses, and electives in the second year allow you to focus on a specific area of academic interest. The Liberal Arts and Science - Mathematics and Science Honors Track is designed to prepare academically advanced students for transfer to high-quality baccalaureate programs through focused interdisciplinary coursework linked to a variety of extracurricular activities.

We have a great, creative faculty. Several of our faculty members have received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and many have been awarded the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Faculty members provide students with instruction using tried and true methods along with innovative teaching practices such as interactive television, web-based courses, collaborative learning and integrated computer work.

Mission Statement

The Mathematics and Engineering Science Department serves students by helping to develop their competence in mathematics. This applies to all Hudson Valley Community College students, whether they are transferring to four-year colleges, joining the workforce upon graduation or taking mathematics courses to achieve or improve their mathematics capabilities. A variety of courses, ranging from Basic Math with Study Skills to Differential Equations are taught on- and off-campus, as well as online.
