Instructor Bio: Noreen Powell

Painting instructor Noreen Powell has been teaching for 17 years, but her passion for art started long before that.

Noreen PowellAs a child, Noreen loved art class, and found she had a natural talent for many creative pursuits. That led her to first pursue a career in graphic design, a field she would work in for 15 years. After staying home to raise her children, she found the missing puzzle piece: teaching. So, she enrolled at the University of Albany, earned a master’s degree in education with a concentration in art, and got into the classroom.

“I love both – painting and teaching!” Noreen says. She finds her inspiration in nature, taking photos of things that catch her eye while she’s out walking her dogs. “I come home from a walk and start painting on the spot. Then I get to share that experience with my class.”

Noreen invites students of all ages and artistic backgrounds to join her classes, no matter how much or how little experience they have. “I love helping people discover – or rediscover – the joy of creating,” she says. “Making art is about the process, not the end product. It is fun to learn and see what you can do!”
