From the basics of computer operation to building your own website and learning the nuances of software applications, we’ve got the class for you.

Computer Basics for the Absolute Beginner
Do you feel like a deer in the headlights when you try to use a computer? Do you need computer skills for your job hunt or so you can keep up with your children or grandchildren? This hands-on course will walk you through the basics so you can take charge of your computer. Learn how to turn the computer on and off, use a mouse and computer keyboard, work with the Windows desktop, menus, and windows, and open and close programs. Learn how to “surf the Web” with Google and Yahoo to find information and evaluate the results, how to use email, and how to keep your computer and internet activities safe from criminal attacks, identity theft and email fraud. Learn how to create folders, save files, and find them again! A step-by-step textbook is included. Course fee includes a $7 computer fee and $26 materials fee for the required textbook. This is a hands-on class, and you will need your Hudson Valley username and password.

Build Your WordPress Site
Ready to build your own webpage? Learn how to get your hobby, special interest or business online using the largest free web building program, WordPress. In this course, we will cover the basics of building your website: branding, wireframing, user experience. We will also cover best practices on web development. From beginning to end, you will plan, design, build and launch your own WordPress site! This course is designed for beginners to more advanced WordPress users. We will also discuss the importance of content generation, SEO and how to promote your site so it will be discovered on web searches. Students should possess basic computer skills. Not only does blogging and vlogging give you the opportunity to share your passions with an audience but today, YouTube stars have created income opportunities through online ads that play in their videos. You don’t have to be an actor, reality TV star or musician to create your own vlog. In this course, we will break down the basics of creating a content calendar, brand building, and syndicating your message across the various social medial platforms.
