Open(ed) Processes 4 Exhibit Scheduled for January 29

An opening reception for Open(ed) Processes 4, featuring the works of Edward Mayer and Thomas Lail, will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, in the Teaching Gallery at Hudson Valley Community College.

Lail and Mayer are two of nine artists that have installed site-specific and site-related works on the Hudson Valley campus in an exhibit titled Open(ed) Spaces, which was commissioned as a part of the college's 50th anniversary celebration.

Lail, an associate professor of fine arts at Hudson Valley, received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University at Albany in 1991. Lail's recent work was shown in "Sculpture: A Matter of Soft and Hard," curated by Anne Ellegood and Rachel Gugelberger at The Artists Alliance in New York City. He also has exhibited in RPI's Green Gallery.

Mayer, a professor of art at UAlbany, earned a bachelor's degree from Brown University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin. Mayer, of Delmar, has exhibited at several college or university galleries including: Binghamton University, UAlbany, Hartwick College, and Rhode Island College. His works also have been shown at the Weston Art Gallery and the Chidlaw Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Open(ed) Processes 4 exhibit will be available for viewing through Sunday, February 29. The gallery, located in the Marvin Library, is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.

Hudson Valley Community College, located at 80 Vandenburgh Avenue in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
