Student and professor working on a computerThe High School Equivalency (HSE) Preparation Program provides flexible, individualized instruction for students seeking to advance their education. Formerly known as the GED, the HSE is designed for students who do not have a high school diploma.

The EOC enrolls students in HSE Preparation classes every week. You can complete the program at your own pace, and EOC faculty and staff will work with you until you pass the exam.

Staff from the EOC College Connections office will work with you during and after your time in the program to explore your options for attending college. If finding work is your goal, EOC Employment Services staff can assist you with a job search.

Are you ready to take the HSE test?
If you want to get your HSE and are wondering if you are ready to take the test, you can find out now at no cost by attending an information session.

At this one-day session, you will learn test-taking strategies, take a practice test to see if you are ready to take the exam, find test locations, and learn how to reserve your seat at a testing center.

Call (518) 273-1900 and press 7 to sign up for an upcoming information session.

The HSE Preparation program is held at the EOC.

Program Requirements

To enter the HSE preparation program, you must receive a 9.0 (561) or higher on the TABE reading scale and a 9.0 (561) or higher on the TABE math scale. The TABE (Test for Adult Basic Education) is administered as part of the EOC's admissions process.

If you do not achieve these scores on the TABE, EOC offers pre-HSE classes to help you meet these admissions requirements.
