The Physical Plant's mission is to efficiently operate, maintain, and improve the physical plant facilities in support of the programs of the college by providing a safe, clean, healthy, and attractive environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The Physical Plant Department which consists of more than 100 employees, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 16 buildings on a 121 acre campus.

Under the direct supervision of the Physical Plant director, it is organized into seven units as follows: physical plant office; maintenance; energy; custodial; grounds; and institutional services and events. Positions in the Physical Plant department are very diversified and include non-teaching professionals, classified staff (competitive and non-competitive) and part-time.

The maintenance, custodial and public safety departments work various shift schedules in an effort to provide services to a campus that is utilized extensively by students and the community.

A Message from the Director of Physical Plant

As part of our continuing effort to better serve the needs of our growing campus community, the Department of Physical Plant is providing this information regarding the various categories of work requests typically received and the manner in which priorities are assigned. It is my hope that such information will give the users of our services a better sense of the work we are prepared to handle and the processes in place to ensure efficient work scheduling.

This page details various type of work requests received by Physical Plant on any given day. It is vital for each of the campus community to remember to recognize that, should he or she witness a condition which is perceived to be an emergency, Physical Plant should be contacted by telephone immediately. Should a person witness a condition which he or she perceives to pose a safety hazard, the Campus Safety Officer should be notified of the condition immediately. And should a person perceive the need for maintenance, repair or enhancement of existing structures, equipment or property, we have procedures in place to provide access to our services.

The General Manager of the McDonough Complex has assumed responsibility for the coordination of services for special events. Physical Plant will receive requests from the General Manager's Office only. Should a member of the campus community be hosting a special event which requires set-up and/or breakdown, they should contact the General Manager's Office and, if appropriate, submit a Special Events Work Request (provided by General Manger's Office).

I hope the information contained herein is clear and proves helpful to you when planning future work requests. Should the need arise for additional information, or if you have any questions pertaining to the information contained in this page, please contact Physical Plant at (518) 629-7356.
