Taylor 2: Modern Dance Free Performance on Saturday, Sept. 29
September 19, 2018
Hudson Valley Community College is pleased to announce a matinee performance by Taylor 2, the second company of world-renowned choreographer Paul Taylor (1930-2018), on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. in the Maureen Stapleton Theatre on the Troy campus. The family-friendly event is open free to the public.
Taylor created Taylor 2 in 1993 as a way to bring modern dance to audiences all over the world regardless of economic and technical challenges at remote or atypical venues. The choreographer revisited the 1954 origins of the Paul Taylor Dance Company and structured Taylor 2 to feature six dancers with a gift for his unique style and dances that span the broad spectrum of his work. To the delight of both audiences and critics, Taylor 2 consistently delivers the athleticism, humor and emotional power of the larger company. Taylor 2 is expected to perform 3 Epitaphs, Piazzolla Caldera and Esplanade on Sept. 29.
On Thursday, Sept. 27, Red Canna Trio presents a free concert at noon, also in the Maureen Stapleton Theatre. Red Canna Trio is a chamber jazz trio playing the original compositions and arrangements of local pianist/composer Elizabeth Woodbury Kasius and other modern composers. Joining Woodbury Kasius are violinist Mitsuko Suzuki, Bobby Kendall, upright bass, and guest vocalist Shari Seidman Parslow.
Both events are presented by the college’s Cultural Affairs Program. Please call (518) 629-8071 for information.
