College to Host Two Free, Open Financial Aid Events Saturday, Oct. 13

WHAT: Hudson Valley Community College will host two free events this Saturday to help high school seniors and their families complete the financial aid application process for college. Staff from the college’s Financial Aid Office will be on hand to provide instruction and step-by-step assistance for all students and families.
The two events are:
- SUNY Financial Aid Day, which is open to all high school seniors and families who register. Registration is available online at SUNY’s website, and the event will be held from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- College Goal 2018, which is open to seniors from Troy High School, specifically. Families can register by calling the Troy High Guidance Department, (518) 328-5472, and signing up for a time slot between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Please note: Students and families must bring their 2017 income tax return and W-2s, along with their student’s social security number and date of birth, in order to start the financial aid application process.
Financial Aid Facts:
- SUNY Financial Aid Day is part of a statewide effort to encourage families to complete the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) early. SUNY colleges and universities around the state are hosting events.
- The average financial aid award this fall at Hudson Valley Community College amounted to 80 percent of the total cost of tuition.
- About half of all current Hudson Valley students receive some form of financial aid.
