Manufacturing Tech Bootcamp Aims to Help Fill Skilled Labor Gap

December 10, 2018

Hudson Valley Community College will offer its next Manufacturing Technology Pathways bootcamp starting Jan. 7, 2019. Enroll by Monday, Dec. 31, 2018!

The intensive, hands-on 80-hour program aims to fill a growing number of entry-level positions in the Capital Region manufacturing workforce. The program will run weekdays from Jan. 7-18, 2019 in the college’s Lang Technical Building advanced manufacturing lab.

This intensive two-week program is designed for adults who want to join the manufacturing workforce but may not have the time to commit to a full degree or certificate program.

An information session will be held in Lang, room 206, on Dec. 13, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for individuals and organizations who wish to learn more about the bootcamp.

According to the Center for Economic Growth, jobs in the Capital Region manufacturing sector climbed to a 16-year high this year and the training program also is designed to link successful graduates to local manufacturers who have difficulty filling entry-level positions.

Companies partnering with the college include Finch Paper in Glens Falls; Simmons Machine Tool Corporation and Fort Orange Press in Albany; Watervliet Arsenal; GLOBALFOUNDRIES in Malta; Owens Corning in Selkirk and Ball Metal Container in Saratoga.

To begin the program, students must complete a short non-credit online course. Prospective students can register at www.ceg.org/grow-here/workforce-education-initiatives/. Individuals completing this level of training will be prepared to enter the hands-on portion of the coursework.

The training program was initially created through a SUNY workforce development grant, with additional funding from the KeyBank Foundation, which awarded a two-year $250,000 grant to the Center for Economic Growth (CEG) to support expansion of the program at Hudson Valley.
