Ninth Annual “Pride of Our Nation… Pride of Our College” Exhibition Opens Saturday, Nov. 9

The ninth annual “Pride of Our Nation… Pride of Our College” exhibition, a display of military photographs and memorabilia loaned by faculty, staff and students, will open Saturday, Nov. 9 with a public reception from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Marvin Library Learning Commons on the Troy campus. Veterans Day, also known as Armistice Day and observed on Monday, Nov. 11, will mark the 101st anniversary of the end of World War I.
Guest speaker for the event will be Omaid Yousofzai, who served as an Army translator and cultural advisor to U.S. Special Forces in the northern provinces of Afghanistan from 2005 to 2007. A Clifton Park resident, Yousofzai earned an Associate of Science degree in computer information systems at Hudson Valley Community College in May 2010.
Yousofzai’s talk will open the event at 1 p.m. Refreshments and time to view the exhibition will follow.
“Pride of Our Nation… Pride of Our College,” a collaborative effort on the part of employees from several departments, is an ever-changing collection of official and family photographs and memorabilia of veterans and active military service members with a connection to the college, according to Alice Malavasic, associate professor in the Department of History, Philosophy and Social Sciences.
The exhibition, located in the Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Atrium on the first floor of the Marvin Library, is on view through Saturday, Dec. 7. Library hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, closed Sunday and Nov. 27-30. Admission is free.
