College to Host Week of the Young Child Events

Hudson Valley Community College will host a series of workshops and lectures to mark the 50th annual Week of the Young Child, April 12-16. The events, which will take place virtually through the Zoom platform, are free and open to the public.

Teachers, students, parents or those who are interested in the field of education are encouraged to join in by emailing the facilitator of the programs they wish to attend. They will send you a Zoom link to the meeting. Details on each lecture can be found on the college’s Calendar of Events.

Monday, April 12: 11 a.m. — noon
Progressive Education in the Early Childhood Setting: Implementing Philosophy into Practice

Incorporating Yoga and Mindfulness in the Early Childhood Classroom

Tuesday, April 13: 1 — 2 p.m.
Collaborating Services for the Young Child

Wednesday, April 14: 6 — 7 p.m.
Why Teach? Thinking About Teaching

Presenter: Casey Jakubowski, chair, Hudson Valley Community College Liberal Arts and General Studies Department

Thursday, April 15: 1 — 2 p.m.
Dyslexia: How to Help the Struggling Reader
Facilitator: Laura Brewer
Presenters: Kathy Jensen, Roberta Read and Lisa Fine, educational specialists

Friday, April 16: 11 a.m. — noon
Working with Children of Divorce
Facilitator and Presenter: Carla Gleason, college faculty member
