Last Updated Aug. 26, 2021

As the guidance related to COVID-19 virus continues to evolve, our protocols and plans will be updated accordingly. Please check this webpage often.

Visit the SUNY COVID-19 Case Tracker for our latest case and testing numbers.

Coming to Campus

Individuals should not report to campus if any of the following have occurred in the past 10 days and should contact their instructor/supervisor and College Health Services at (518) 629-7468 or healthservice@hvcc.edu:

  • Knowingly been in close contact with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases;
  • Tested positive for COVID-19;
  • Experienced any COVID-19 symptoms including a temperature of 100.4 degrees F or greater.

Vaccination

With the FDA’s full approval of a COVID-19 vaccine, all SUNY colleges must comply with New York State’s mandate for students coming to campus to be fully vaccinated.

Student Vaccination Mandate

To ensure the health and safety of our community, the college urges the entire campus community, including faculty and staff, to get vaccinated as well.

People are considered fully vaccinated:

  • two weeks after receiving the second dose in a two dose COVID-19 vaccine series or
  • two weeks after receiving a single dose COVID-19 vaccine.

Daily Health Screening

All unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals coming to campus must complete the health screening questionnaire prior to arriving each day.
NOTE: Fully vaccinated students and employees who submit proof of vaccination through the Employee & Student Testing Exemption form and receive approval are not required to complete the daily screening but are asked to complete a daily at-home self-health assessment before coming to campus.

Masks and Social Distancing

A campus-wide mask policy goes into effect Monday, Aug. 23 that requires masks to be worn by all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, whenever they are indoors on campus, which includes instructional settings, unless they are alone in a private office or classroom, eating or drinking or unable to wear a mask due to a medical condition. Masks are recommended to be worn in crowded outdoor areas as well. Choose a type and fit of mask that complies with CDC mask usage guidelines.
NOTE: Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals must continue to wear a mask and maintain six feet social distancing from those outside their residence in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Masks will be made available for those who do not bring their own to campus, and instructional spaces will maintain social distancing throughout the Fall 2021 semester.

Those who are not able to wear a face mask for medical reasons, should notify the Center for Access and Assistive Technology at (518) 629-7154 or caat@hvcc.edu for accommodations.

Note for Clinical Programs and Courses: Health care settings and clinical teaching laboratories that function as a health care space may operate without the six-feet distancing normally required in a classroom setting. Masks must continue to be used in these settings regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.

Testing Requirements and Exemptions

Weekly pooled surveillance testing is available to all students and employees.

  • All unvaccinated or partially vaccinated students and employees who are on campus for any reason are required to participate in weekly testing until further notice.
  • Fully vaccinated students and employees are exempt form mandatory weekly testing upon submission and approval of documentation showing completion of a full vaccination series.
  • Those meeting one of the following criteria should submit a Pooled Testing Exemption Form and related documentation:
    • If you are fully vaccinated.
    • If you tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days.
    • If you took your weekly test off-campus.
    • If you were on campus for less than one hour.
