“It was never part of my dream to win awards. I just love doing hair.”

Former Hudson Valley student Annemarie Bradley-Sherron, who won a 2023 Academy Award, was honored with an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts (D.F.A.) degree at the college’s 2024 commencement ceremony.

After nearly 30 years in the beauty and entertainment industries, and with over 60 film and television credits to her name, Annemarie was recognized in 2023 with the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Hair and Makeup for the film “The Whale.”

Annemarie attended Hudson Valley in the late 1980s, eventually focusing on the cosmetology field and graduating from the Orlo School of Beauty. As a hair artist with expertise in custom wig-making, she established herself as an innovator in creating hairpieces.

Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media Department Chair Scott Hathaway was an acquaintance of Annemarie while both were students at Hudson Valley and was instrumental in arranging her visit to campus following her Academy Award, as well as her nomination for the SUNY honorary degree.
