College Hosts Women's Empowerment Event for Incoming Students

What: Approximately 50 students are expected to attend the second annual Women's Empowerment Day at Hudson Valley Community College. Presentations and panel discussions with education and community leaders focus on college and career success.

When: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28.

Where: Siek Campus Center, Hudson Valley Community College, 80 Vandenburgh Ave., Troy, NY 12180

Who: Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, Head Women's Basketball Coach at the University at Albany will deliver the keynote address.

Several speakers from Hudson Valley Community College will share their perspectives as well, including: Dr. Carolyn Curtis, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Karen Ferrer-Muniz, Associate Dean for Instructional Support Services and Retention; and student Valerie Eagle.

Marissa Lanchak, Assistant Program Director/Afternoon Host at WFLY 92.3 will welcome attendees. Jade Gibson, Small Business Owner and Angelicia Morris, Executive Director, Schenectady County Human Rights, will also share their experience with attendees.

Why: Women's Empowerment Day aims to inspire future generations of female leaders and provides practical advice to new and returning students for succeeding in college and planning for entering the workforce.
