Capital District EOC Celebrating 50 Years; Community Invited to Anniversary Party and Open House

What: The Capital District Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a celebratory event on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in its new location on River Street in Troy. The community is invited to join students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends at the golden anniversary kickoff, which will include commemorative remarks, tours and refreshments prepared by the center's culinary arts program chef and students.

Why: A division of Hudson Valley Community College and part of SUNY's University Center for Academic and Workforce Development (UCAWD), the Capital District EOC has served nearly 50,000 academically and economically disadvantaged students at no cost since it opened five decades ago. The EOC has helped those individuals gain self-confidence, realize career goals and obtain self-sufficiency and economic independence. The EOC serves approximately 1,000 students each year annually at locations in Troy and Albany.

Who: In addition to Dr. Lucille Marion, Vice President/Executive Director of the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center, attendees from Hudson Valley Community College will be President Drew Matonak, faculty and administrative leaders.

Where: Capital District Educational Opportunity Center, Sharp Memorial Hall, 431 River St, Troy

When: 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22

Details: Each of the center's programs, including building trades, cosmetology, culinary arts, certified nursing assistant, welding and academics, will be highlighted through a variety of anniversary events throughout the year for students, faculty and staff, alumni, retirees and the community. A gala event in October 2016 will close out the anniversary year's activities.
