Girls in STEM Event, Open House at TEC-SMART Extension Center in Malta this Saturday

What: Hudson Valley Community College's TEC-SMART extension center will host two events this Saturday. 

  • Girls in STEM - Girls in the fourth to eighth grades will attend the fourth annual Girls in STEM, a free educational event featuring hands-on workshops designed to illustrate the fun side of science and technology.
  • TEC-SMART Open House – This is an opportunity for the community to see the college's state-of-the-art educational facility, learn about the courses offered there as well as two new career–focused associate degree programs offered by the college – Mechatronics and Clean Energy Management.

Where: TEC-SMART is located at 345 Hermes Road in NYSERDA's Saratoga Technology + Energy Park® (STEP®), Malta. 

When: Girls in STEM will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The TEC-SMART Open House will run from 10 a.m. to noon.

Details: Girls in STEM is sponsored by the Center for Economic Growth, GLOBALFOUNDRIES and Hudson Valley Community College, with additional sponsorship from Girls Inc., Key Bank and Walrath Recruiting. 

Hands-on workshops at the event will be run by the Ballston Spa Central School District's Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School, CS Arch Architecture and Construction Management, General Electric, Girl Scouts, the Museum of Innovation and Science, National Grid, SUNY Poly Children's Museum of Science and Technology, the Traveling Museum and WMHT. 

A follow-up program called GLOBALGirls will be sponsored by GLOBALFOUNDRIES and held at the company's Fab 8 facility, located at 400 Stone Break Road Extension from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The TEC-SMART Open House will include information sessions about programs and courses offered at the facility. Visitors can tour the facility and information sessions will focus on two new academic programs. Representatives from admissions and financial aid will also be on hand.
