College and North Greenbush Police Department to Hold Emergency Drill on Campus Friday, May 6

April 29, 2016

Hudson Valley Community College, in cooperation with the North Greenbush Police Department, will hold an emergency drill in and around Lang Hall from approximately 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6.

The drill will simulate an active shooter within the building and prompt a staged response from local law enforcement, Public Safety and members of the college's Emergency Preparedness Committee. Several student and faculty volunteers will participate as well.

"In any emergency situation, preparedness is the key, and that's the reason we are hosting this type of exercise," said President Drew Matonak. "With our partners in the North Greenbush Police Department, we will test our ability to respond to this type of event and practice existing our crisis response plans."

As this is only a drill, the college will remain open and classes will be held. Please expect to see police and emergency response personnel on campus and to receive messages that test college communication tools including the building public address system, email, phone, website and social media channels. (The SUNY-NY Alert system will not be deployed in this instance as it is maintained and tested by the NYS Emergency Management Office.) All messages will identify the exercise as a drill intended to further enhance the safety of our campus.

The active shooter drill is the result of ongoing work and preparation headed by the college's Emergency Preparedness Committee.
