50th Annual Capital District EOC Graduation Celebrates Student Success

What: The Capital District Educational Opportunity Center's 50th Annual Graduation Ceremony recognizes the achievement of more than 250 students in 12 academic and workforce training programs. 

Who: Speakers include Dr. Lucille A. Marion, Vice President/ Executive Director, Capital District Educational Opportunity Center; Dr. Andrew J. Matonak, President, Hudson Valley Community College; Neil J. Kelleher, Chair, Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees; Lisa McKay, Associate Provost and Director, University Center for Academic and Workforce Development, SUNY; Laquasia Douglas, EOC Building Trades student.

When: Thursday, June 30, 6 to 9 p.m.

Where: McDonough Sports Complex, Hudson Valley Community College

Details: Since 1966, the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center, a division of Hudson Valley Community College and part of the State University of New York, has offered tuition-free academic and workforce development opportunities to disadvantaged and educationally under-prepared New York State residents 16 years and older. As a result, thousands of Capital Region residents have gained self-confidence in their own potential, realized career goals, and obtained self-sufficiency and economic independence.

The EOC enrolls nearly 900 students each year. It has served approximately 50,000 individuals in its five decades of service to our community.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 80 associate degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and workforce and academic preparation programs offered through the Educational Opportunity Center. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of nearly 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has 75,000 alumni.
