Veteran Benefits Advisor

An accredited Veterans Benefits Advisor from the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs is available. Stop by the Wellness Center or call (518) 629-7320 to make an appointment for assistance with any state or federal veteran benefits including but not limited to: GI Bill, vocational rehabilitation, compensation and pension, VA healthcare, survivor's benefits, home loan guaranty, review of discharge, burial. If you are unsure of your eligibility or whether a program may benefit you, please take the time to stop by.
Soothing Sound Chamber & Labyrinth Walk
10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Siek Campus Center, room 204
Be transported by the psycho-acoustic sounds of the symphonic gong, crystal singing bowls, Native American flute, monochord, chimes and other exotic world instruments. Palpable sound waves move over the skin, nourishing the nervous system with therapeutic sound presented by Amy McTear. Plus Labyrinth walking, a practice used worldwide as a way to quiet the mind, recover a balance in life, and encourage meditation, insight, self-reflection, stress reduction, innovation, and celebration. The practice is a non-denominational, cross-cultural blueprint for well-being, open to all, integrating the body, mind, and spirit. Come and go as needed. Drop in for a quick fix or stay for deep immersion. Yoga mats, cushions and snacks will be will be provided. Sponsored by the Campus Ministry.

Film Showing: "The Hungry Heart"

"The Hungry Heart," a 93-minute documentary, provides an intimate look at the often hidden world of prescription drug addiction as seen by Vermont pediatrician Fred Holmes, who works with patients struggling with this disease. Through his story, we see the many faces and diverse populations of addicts and their continued search for recovery. Presented by Voices: A Library Lecture Series.
Heart Beatz: Therapeutic Drumming

An open-to-all therapeutic drumming group that offers an outlet for rhythmic expression.

sUAS/Drone Training Information Session
6 to 7 p.m., Bulmer Telecommunications Center, meeting room 3
An information session on exciting new technology now available for commercial use. Drones, also known as small Unmanned Aircraft Systems, are in the spotlight after Federal Aviation Administration regulations were released earlier this year. Learn how drone use is changing the economy and creating new jobs. A flight demonstration of various piloting skills also will also take place. Presented by the Workforce Development Institute, which offers Drone Flight Systems Training - Introduction to Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS). The next 18-hour course session begins Nov. 7.

Eyes Wide Open: Human Trafficking in the Capital Region
11 to 11:50 a.m., Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium
Every year, thousands of women and girls are forced into human trafficking right in our own community. Debbie Fowler, founder of Eyes Wide Open NENY, Inc. in Schenectady, and author of "Fragrance in the Desert," discusses the atrocities of human trafficking and the mission of her organization to provide restorative care, hope and sanctuary to its survivors. A companion exhibit, Human Trafficking: An Artist's Response, by Joanne Von Genderen, whose artwork is informed by both survivors of human trafficking and advocates for change, will be displayed in the BTC Lobby from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Presented by Voices: A Library Lecture Series.
Thursday, Oct. 27
Pumpkin Palooza Student Festival
11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Siek Campus Center, first floor
Highlights of this Halloween celebration are the pumpkin decoration competition with prizes for students and staff (judging is from noon to 1 p.m.) and the pumpkin catapult from 11 a.m. to noon in front of the Campus Center. Stop by to see how many pumpkins hit the target.
Pumpkin Palooza Family Festival
5:30 to 8:30 p.m., McDonough Sports Complex
This fall festival is free and open to the public and features caricatures, Mr. Twisty (balloon artist), carnival games, prizes, music, Magician Jim Snack, Heartfelt Clowns, and treats and refreshments. Donations of non-perishable food items for the college food pantry are requested. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Sponsored by the Student Senate.
Saturday, Oct. 29 - Sunday, Oct. 30
Opening Weekend for Conway Ice Rink
The Conway Ice Rink at Hudson Valley Community College opens for the 2016-17 season on Saturday, Oct. 29. Admission is free on opening weekend. The 18,000 square foot rink, located in the McDonough Sports Complex, offers recreational skating for all ages from 4 to 6:15 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Weekdays, the rink will be open from noon to 2 p.m.
