An accredited Veterans Benefits Advisor from the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs is available. Stop by the Wellness Center or call (518) 629-7320 to make an appointment for assistance with any state or federal veteran benefits including but not limited to: GI Bill, vocational rehabilitation, compensation and pension, VA healthcare, survivor's benefits, home loan guaranty, review of discharge, burial. If you are unsure of your eligibility or whether a program may benefit you, please take the time to stop by.

The Elephant in the Room: Addiction, a Family and Community Disease
Noon to 12:50 p.m., Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium
How do we spot addiction, understand the distinct difference between sobriety and recovery, and support rehabilitation? Brian Farr, a professor in the Chemical Dependency Counseling Department at Hudson Valley Community College, leads a panel discussion to address these issues, with representatives from Friends of Recovery New York (FOR), a Hudson Valley student in recovery and a local substance abuse clinician. Presented by Voices: A Library Lecture Series.
Dia de Muertos: An Introduction to the Mexican Tradition
1 to 2 p.m., Marvin Library Learning Commons, Multipurpose Room
Associate Professor Malu Benton will discuss and demonstrate Dia de Muertos, a traditional Mexican observance celebrated on Nov. 1. Families construct elaborately decorated altars to honor their deceased loved ones, including skeletons, sugar skull candy, flowers, candles, food and drink. The presentation complements a Dia de Muertos altar on display in the Library's Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Atrium.

Clean Tech ECHS Fall Student Project Exhibition
9 to 10:30 a.m., TEC-SMART, Hermes Road, Malta
The Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (Clean Tech ECHS) will host the first student project exhibition of the school year. Families, teachers, school counselors, administrators, civic leaders, and partners in business, industry, higher education, and non-profit agencies are invited to come see future leaders present their student projects addressing real world issues. Learn more about nanotechnology, integrated circuits and more from over 275 area students in grades 9-12 (representing over 20 high schools). Student Projects to be exhibited are 9th Grade: Habits of Mind Infographic, 10th Grade: Integrated Circuits, 11th Grade: Bioenergy Infographic and Water Quality, 12th Grade: Nanotechnology Marketing. Film Showing: "The Hungry Heart"

"The Hungry Heart," a 93-minute documentary, provides an intimate look at the often hidden world of prescription drug addiction as seen by Vermont pediatrician Fred Holmes, who works with patients struggling with this disease. Through his story, we see the many faces and diverse populations of addicts and their continued search for recovery. Presented by Voices: A Library Lecture Series to complement panel discussion, "The Elephant in the Room: Addiction, A Family and Community Disease," on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Lost Radio Rounders: Politics & Patriots
Noon to 12:50 p.m., Siek Campus Center, room 204
As another, typically contentious U.S. Presidential election campaign draws to what is bound to be a dramatic close, the acoustic Americana duo of Michael Eck and Tom Lindsay return to campus with a program of harmony, history and humor. Lost Radio Rounders' Politics & Patriots – a history lesson set to music – reminds us that the triumphs and foibles of U.S. politicians from George Washington to F.D.R. often have been recounted in song. Presented by the Cultural Affairs Program.
Faculty Artist Talk – Benj Gleeksman

Benj Gleeksman, graphic designer, will present the first of four artist talks scheduled in conjunction with the Fine Arts and Digital Media Faculty Exhibit (see below). Presented by The Teaching Gallery.

Clean Tech ECHS Information Night
6:30 to 8 p.m., TEC-SMART, Hermes Road, Malta
The Clean Tech ECHS hosts an information night for current 8th grade students. School district leaders, parents and high school students interested in learning more about the program are invited to attend the information session presented by former students and program staff, followed by optional tours of the facility. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5 and 6
Public Ice Skating
4 to 6:15 p.m., Conway Ice Rink, McDonough Sports Complex
Open recreational skating for all ages is offered at the 18,000-square-foot rink from 4 to 6:15 p.m. weekends and noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday now through Sunday, March 7, 2017. Admission rates: $2 for children 2 to 17 years old; $2 for seniors (60+); and $3 for adults. Skate rentals: $3 each, toddlers through adults.
