Construction Jobs Land on Indeed's Top 25 Hottest Jobs

June 4, 2018

The career website recently released its Top 25 hottest jobs in the country for 2018 and nine of the top spots were held by careers related to the construction industry.

Commercial project manager, preconstruction manager, construction superintendent, chief estimator and construction estimator were first, fifth, sixth, ninth and twelfth on the list, respectively.

“These are great careers that line up with several of the academic programs we offer,” said Department Chairperson Dr. Christine LaPlante. “The chief estimator and preconstruction manager could be a Construction Technology - Building Construction or Civil Engineering Technology graduate and the construction estimator could come out of our Construction certificate program. Graduates of our Civil Engineering Technology programs have also gone on to become project managers and project superintendents.”

The average base salary for the nine construction-related careers in the Top 25 is nearly $78,000.

Several of the construction-related careers are new on the website’s list, compared to 2017. Preconstruction manager (#5), construction estimator (#12), and construction manager (#19) did not appear in last year’s Top 25. Meanwhile, construction superintendent moved from #24 on last year’s list to 6th place, with a 122 percent growth in job postings over the past four years.

“We know the best way to prepare for these kinds of professions is through education, and we have spots open in all of these academic programs that lead to great careers,” Dr. LaPlante said. “Students looking for a career where they can use attention to detail, analysis and problem-solving skills should consider exploring these programs.”

Indeed is one of the world’s leading job sites, with over 200 million unique visitors every month.
