Albany Center for Education to Offer High School Equivalency Testing

Capital Region residents looking to complete their High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma will now have a new testing location – Albany Center for Education (ACE), Hudson Valley Community College’s new extension site located at 30 North Russell Road, off Central Avenue, a location which has long housed the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), a division of Hudson Valley.

The EOC recently received approval to offer TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) testing at the site. It also offers the testing at its Troy location at 431 River Street.

“Our ability to offer preparation and testing for the high school equivalency diploma is part of the continuum of services we offer the residents of the Capital Region,” said President Roger A. Ramsammy. “We are very pleased to now be one of just two sites in Albany County to offer TASC testing and we welcome residents to take advantage of these services and continue their education at Hudson Valley Community College.”

Individuals interested and ready to take the TASC test may schedule for one of the upcoming test dates to be held at the ACE by completing the Application Process listed at www.acces.nysed.gov/hse/taking-hsetasc-tests. For those who feel they need some academic refresher before taking the test, the EOC enrolls income-eligible students in HSE preparation classes every week, and faculty and staff work with students to prepare for the exam, which includes five components: reading, writing, math, science and social studies.

Over the last two years, 83 percent of students enrolled in EOC’s HSE program passed the TASC test to earn their HSE.

Hudson Valley Community College also offers HSE prep courses on its Troy campus through its Office of Community and Professional Education.

Formerly, individuals seeking a High School Equivalency diploma in New York State took the GED exam. GED testing was replaced with TASC testing which takes place over two days. Upcoming testing dates at the ACE include: March 19 and 20; June 18 and 19; and Sept. 24 and 25.
