Coplin Named VP for Student Affairs

Louis Coplin has been named the vice president for student affairs at Hudson Valley Community College.
Coplin has more than 30 years of administrative experience at the college, including two terms as interim vice president. In his new role, he oversees a wide variety of student support and enrollment offices, including Admissions, Athletics, Campus Ministry, Center for Access and Assistive Technology, Center for Careers and Transfer, Cultural Affairs, Educational Opportunity Program, Financial Aid, Judicial Affairs, New Student Orientation, Registrar, Student Activities and Wellness Center.
As vice president, he also serves as president and chairperson of the Faculty Student Association (FSA) of Hudson Valley Community College, Inc. Board of Directors. The FSA is a not-for-profit organization that operates the Viking Child Care Center, the college bookstore, and oversees the college’s dining and vending services.
During his career at the college, Coplin has been involved in planning and creating numerous student success and retention efforts as well as developing community partnerships.
“Louis has served the college admirably for three decades, and the college will benefit greatly from his skills and experience as we move the college forward,” said President Roger A. Ramsammy. “With his broad institutional knowledge and deep relationships within our campus community, he will be an asset in our continual efforts to attract, assist and retain students.”
Coplin previously served as director of student life and the college’s Educational Opportunity Program since 1995, where he provided administrative supervision of the student government association, student clubs and organizations, cultural affairs, and campus ministry. In 2001, he received the State University of New York Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Professional Service Award.
He earned a bachelor of arts in communications from the State University of New York at Fredonia and an M.A. in social policy from Empire State College. Originally from Buffalo, he is the father of three children, Daniele, Joiele, and Louis III, and currently resides in Glenmont, with his wife, Jennifer.
