Hudson Valley Community College and the University of Massachusetts Boston announced a new transfer agreement between their respective honors college programs.

The new partnership provides Hudson Valley students who complete the Honors College curriculum and earn an associate’s degree with the opportunity for guaranteed admission to the University of Massachusetts Boston and its Honors College.

The agreement is the first specifically designed for Hudson Valley’s Honors College program and students.

Honors College programs at the collegiate level allow students to take specially designated honors courses and to engage in research, internships and volunteer projects. A rigorous curriculum includes emphasis on academics, service, leadership and diversity where students can demonstrate intellectual curiosity, ambition, integrity and global citizenship. Many students also become eligible for prestigious scholarships and acceptance into Honors College programs at a bachelor’s degree granting institution.

"I am delighted to see this Honors to Honors partnership with HVCC and UMass Boston come to fruition,” said Hudson Valley Honors College Director Lamyaa Hassib. “This signifies an important milestone for our Honors College as we expand the phenomenal academic opportunities for our students. Students transferring into the UMass Honors College will further their intellectual growth and positive engagement in the community. Thank you to all who made this dream a reality and for putting the success of our students at the forefront of our mission."

“I am so thrilled that these two institutions, which are personally significant to my career, have come together to create this new partnership that will benefit the people of New York and Massachusetts,” said UMass Boston's Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Dr. Karen Ferrer-Muniz. “Collaboration to bring about new experiences for talented and gifted students is so important for the diverse and academically motivated people that our institutions serve. Thank you to all who made this happen and all that will help realize this MOU’s promise.”

The Honors College at Hudson Valley began in the fall of 2023. It is designed for students with strong high school academic records and participation in extracurricular activities, preferably with leadership experience. Applicants must be first-time college students, and first-generation students and individuals from historically underserved communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Hudson Valley will also host an Honors College Signing Ceremony on July 1 to welcome the second class of incoming Honors College students. Students and their families will join us to celebrate their acceptance to the college and the Honors College program and will sign an official Honors College banner.
