Event Series Commemorates Day of the Dead

Join Hudson Valley for a series of events in celebration of Day of the Dead, an annual Mexican celebration for departed loved ones.

A Día de Muertos altar exhibit was opened in the Marvin Library atrium on Wednesday, Oct. 8 and can be visited through Saturday, Nov. 2. The college community is invited to email photographs of any departed loved ones they wish to remember and honor and will be printed and placed in the exhibit.

Thursday, Oct. 10
Mariachi Fiesta del Norte played traditional Mexican songs and educated audience members what a Mariachi Band is as well as the instruments they play.

Tuesday, Oct. 15
The Pixar movie Coco was played, accompanied by a taco bar. The movie depicts the Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead.

Tuesday, Oct. 22
At 1 p.m. in the Marvin Library Multipurpose Room, Professor Malú Benton will host an interactive discussion of Día de Muertos. Students, faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to attend and share their thoughts and similar experiences. A Mexican dinner. Including Mexican hot chocolate and refreshments will be served.

Monday, Oct. 28
At 3:30 p.m. in Campus Center 150, the movie The Book of Life will be shown. The movie is about two Aztec gods who compete on Day of the Dead. A taco bar and refreshments will be provided.

Saturday, Nov. 2
Last day of the Día de Muertos altar exhibit in the Marvin Library atrium.
