April 23, 2025
Students in the college’s Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media will have the opportunity to start a new series of hands-on internships with the Arts Center of the Capital Region next fall.
The internships will provide students with opportunities to learn practical skills in arts-related professions and work with professionals at the Arts Center to gain valuable experience in their areas of interest.
Internship areas will include: Teaching the Arts and Studio Management; Gallery Management; Grant Management; Business Skills in the Arts; Facility and Theatre Management; and Marketing the Arts.
Interns will receive a $300 stipend after successfully completing the program.
“The college has enjoyed a wonderful partnership with the Arts Center for decades, and we are happy and very excited that this new series of internships will offer students new educational opportunities,” said Scott Hathaway, the chair of the Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media. “Our students not only benefit from our exceptional art, media and theatre faculty but, through these new internships, they’ll learn how to apply their craft, market themselves as artists and gain practical, hands-on skills. It’s an exciting opportunity for them.”
The Arts Center of the Capital Region has been the region’s leading arts organization for over six decades, offering exhibitions, classes, public art and grant funding opportunities for artists from around the area. The Arts Center operates 36,000 square feet of studio space that focuses on pottery, digital arts, printmaking, culinary arts, jewelry making and metalworking, woodworking, painting and drawing, stained glass, writing and dance, as well as four contemporary art galleries and 100-seat black box theatre.
For nearly 50 years, the Arts Center and the college have partnered to provide “Crafts for Credit,” an opportunity to earn college-level credit in courses that deal with crafts taught at the Arts Center, like jewelry, pottery, stained glass and woodworking.
“Many creatives use multiple skills to create a sustainable living,” said Arts Center Executive Director Liz Reiss. “We look forward to partnering with Hudson Valley so that together we can invest in our regional talents and help our artists thrive.”
