Four New Academic Programs Open at HVCC

Hudson Valley Community College will offer three new associate degree and certificate programs this fall and a new certificate program will start accepting students for Fall 2025.
A one-year Welding certificate is offered through the Engineering, Architecture and Manufacturing Department to train students for entry-level careers or allow them to seamlessly transition into the college’s popular Welding and Fabrication A.O.S. degree program. The 34-credit certificate has reached capacity for fall semester.
A 62-credit associate in arts (A.A.) degree in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice also opens this fall. The new program is designed for transfer into a bachelor’s degree in sociology or a related humanities or social sciences program. Offered through the Education and Social Sciences Department, the program provides an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on cultural competency and major concepts in the field of sociology.
Students looking to enter the field of preschool and elementary education now have an option to begin their teacher training at Hudson Valley. The 62-credit Early Childhood and Childhood Studies associate in science (A.S.) degree provides the first two years of general requirements that can transfer to a four-year baccalaureate program in this field.
Students will complete general education courses and may start their academic concentration and education courses. Graduates will be ready to transfer into teacher certification programs focusing on early childhood, childhood or special education. The degree is also offered through the Education and Social Sciences Department.
In addition, a 39-credit Cardiovascular Intervention Technology certificate program begins accepting new students in fall 2025. Offered by the college’s Medical Imaging Department, the program trains working radiologic technologists to assist physicians with procedures such as angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, embolization, ablation and biopsies. Students who successfully complete the certificate are eligible for American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification.
“These new programs are a reflection of how Hudson Valley is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our students as well as the needs of New York State’s employers,” said the college’s Officer in Charge Louis Coplin. “It is a longstanding tradition of our college to adapt and change to meet those needs, and I’m pleased to see that tradition continuing this fall.”
