Attendance Policy

  • ATI students are expected to attend ALL scheduled training.
  • Excused absences from class may be approved by the Lead Instructor or the ATI Director. Examples of reasons for excused absences include sickness (sickness greater than two (2) consecutive days requires a doctor’s note), bereavement, family care, jury duty, or another legitimate situation that requires a student to be away from class. Excused absences greater than five (5) days requires prior written approval of the ATI Director.
  • Students with an unexcused absence will be counseled by their instructor on the attendance requirements of the ATI. Students with greater than the equivalent of three (3) full days (24 class hours) of unexcused absences will be counseled by the ATI Director in writing and may be removed from the school without refund if further unexcused absences occur.
  • Students unable to attend scheduled training (excused or unexcused) are required to make up all training missed. Coordination for making up training is made with the Instructor, Lead Instructor or Director. Make-up training dates may be scheduled on weekends or in the evening after regularly scheduled training at the direction of the Lead Instructor or Director.

Substance Abuse Policy

  • HVCC has a zero-tolerance policy for the use or possession of drugs or alcohol on any campus, in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Campus Regulations listed in the Student Handbook (PDF).
    • Possession, transportation and/or use of any illegal drugs on campus are not allowed. No person who appears under the influence of a drug is allowed on campus.
    • No alcoholic beverages or any form of marijuana may be brought to, possessed, or consumed on campus. No person who appears intoxicated and/or under the influence of a substance is allowed on campus.
  • Disciplinary suspension, dismissal, or expulsion from the program in accordance with HVCC’s Drug and Alcohol Policy may result from the violation of this policy.
  • If any instructor observes a student who appears to be under the influence of either drugs, marijuana, or alcohol, the student will be directed to leave the premises immediately. This is a safety concern. Personnel under the influence of any substance that affects perception and/or reaction time must not be permitted to be in the vicinity of aircraft or dangerous machinery.
    • The Instructor will document the event to include any additional witnesses and include a full synopsis of the situation.
    • The documentation will be forwarded to the ATI Director who will discuss the incident directly with the instructor, witnesses (as applicable), and student.
    • The ATI Director, upon conferring with HVCC leadership and legal counsel, will determine the appropriate disciplinary action for the student.
