This certificate program is designed for those already working in the field of addictions counseling who are seeking to gain their Credential in Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC), which is administered by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS).

Many of those working in the chemical dependency field have completed associate or bachelor's degrees but lack the CASAC credential, and this certificate program addresses that need. This certificate allows potential students to use their employment experience to fulfill the certificate's internship requirements.

The program does not prepare students for practice outside the regulations of a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) as defined by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS).

This program is offered by the Human Services and Chemical Dependency Counseling Department. The department also offers a Chemical Dependency Counseling A.A.S. program for those entering the field of substance abuse counseling without any prior experience.
