This program is designed for those who wish to pursue advanced degrees in Physics, Chemistry or Earth Science. The curriculum offers core courses in the physical sciences as well as additional electives that meet general education requirements for the liberal arts in preparation for transfer to a four-year college or university.

Following the core curriculum in their first year, students may pursue a concentration in Chemistry, Physics or Earth Science during their second year.

Physical Sciences is designed as a transfer program toward an advanced degree. Graduates are able to use the coursework from this program to enter bachelor degree programs in physics, astronomy, chemistry, biochemistry, atmospheric science, meteorology and geology.

This program is offered by the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department.

Program Tracks

Physics student working on an experiment in a science lab
The Physics track is designed for those students interested in pursuing Physics as a major at a four-year institution. Due to small class size and the importance placed on the lab experience, students will leave the program with a strong background in the fundamentals of Physics as well as excellent lab and research skills.
Chemistry student looking into a microscope in a science lab
The Chemistry track will provide students the foundation they need to transfer to a four-year institution and complete a four-year degree in chemistry. It will give students an excellent background in their preparation for further advanced study in chemistry as well as their use of chemistry in a future career path.
Earth science students working on an experiment with a professor in a science lab
The Earth Science track is designed to prepare students for further study in geology, meteorology or astronomy as well as accommodate students who might want to pursue their teaching certification in Earth Science.
